Radka Denemarková: Stunden aus Blei. Interview with Daniela Strigl. Editor Barbara Belič. Das rote Mikro. Radio Helsinki, 28. 3. 2022.

28. 3. 2022 at 20:00 in Radio Helsinki: Radka Denemarková

The multi-award-winning and internationally renowned Czech author Radka Denemarková, former Graz City Writer, reads from her latest novel “Hours of Lead” and talks about the book with literary scholar Daniela Strigl.

Much of the highly political novel is set in China, where Denemarkova has stayed several times. However, it is by no means only about China, but also about Europe, about the West. “I wanted to describe the illnesses of this time,” says the author, meaning, among other things, the symbiosis of capitalism and dictatorship that arises when businessmen and politicians from democratic countries smell big money and ignore the fact that their partner is a totalitarian state in which people disappear.

“Hours of Lead”, translated into German by Eva Profousová, was published by Hoffmann und Campe in 2022. Reading and discussion took place on 1 February at the Literaturhaus Graz.
